Meatsuit – food

With all of my fabulous anxiety disorders I’ve found this thought to be a particularly comforting one. We all live in a meatsuit driven by a survival focused brain. We evolved this way.

Well, as a diabetic, if there’s one thing I understand is the meatsuit need for food. It’s natural that when our blood sugar gets low we start to feel anxiety, that’s when we’re driven to go and find food no matter what. If it gets too low we get shaky, sweaty, and downright feral as far as mood is concerned. It’s a good reminder that we have a meatsuit to take care of, it’s not all fun and games up in our cerebrum.

I’m sure we’ve all forgotten to eat and gone straight for the carbs! It’s natural to want to bring up our blood sugar straight away. It’s also quite fine to do that, just do it. Then go back to eating normally. Its important to remember to eat small balanced meals throughout the day to avoid it. Set an alarm! It’s worth it!

So what the hell is a balanced meal anyway? Well, it’s protein, carbs, and fiber for me, in that order. I’ve put fiber before carbs before and that just landed me in the bathroom!!! The rule is no processed foods, but that’s the rule for people with an actual food budget. There’s plenty of processed protein, carbs, and fiber to be had out there for half the price of the “natural” ones. My favorites are garlic sausage and granola bars because you knock out the last two just like that. They’re often found on sale. Less processed but equally as cheap is oatmeal! Oatmeal with frozen berries and Splenda is so good!!! Buy them bulk and you’re set. Just remember to add a protein to that meal, that one just takes care of fiber and carbs.

Anyway, I feel like I’m rambling about food now. As a diabetic I sort of obsess about it. Remember to feed and water your meat suits and it will ground you! Bye for now!
